The Department of Radiology provides high quality comprehensive clinical radiology and related services for the management of patients attending Queen Mary Hospital and her associated institutes. The Department is also actively involved in clinical research in collaboration with other clinical departments, and training of medical and technological staff in the field of Radiology. Moreover, the Department is also actively involved in various health programs for specific disease entities.

The Department provided radiological services for 383,896 patients in 2014/15 including plain X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Angiography & Interventional Radiology and Fluoroscopy. In addition to the Radiology service provided within the Department, satellite Radiology service is also available for various clinical units of Queen Mary Hospital including Endoscopy Centre at D3, Lithotripsy Centre at D4 and the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at K19 and CG. With the enhancement and redistribution of radiology service, the Department of Radiology of Queen Mary Hospital has become the hub of imaging service providers in Hong Kong West Cluster.

To accommodate the escalating demand of MRI service, a cutting-edge 3.0 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system was installed and put into service in October 2006 together with another 1.5 Tesla MRI system. It was the first 3.0 Tesla MRI systems among the hospitals of Hospital Authority. Moreover, the 3rd MRI system was installed in QMH in December 2015 to expand the service capacity. A 16-slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanner was installed in the Accident & Emergency Department in September 2009 for patients requiring urgent CT service e.g. trauma patients or patients with acute stroke. A 320-slice CT scanner with the latest CT imaging technology was installed in DR in 2013 to optimize the related imaging service. To stay cutting-edge of imaging technology and meet service needs, two units of angiographic equipment were replaced in 2011. Two new fluoroscopic units were installed at K3, DR to enhance the service of general fluoroscopy and interventional radiology. New direct digital radiography systems were also installed at H1, K3 and A&E X-ray Unit to enhance the through-put of plain X-ray services in the concerned areas. Mobile digital radiography system was put into service for portable X-ray examinations of in-patients in 2014 to shorten the turnaround time of portable examinations to facilitate patient management. Moreover, the main entrance and patient waiting area of H1 were renovated to improve the environment and supporting facilities for our patients.
