Overview
Queen Mary Hospital (QMH), situated at the south western side of the Hong Kong Island, began operation in 1937 with 546 beds. It is now an acute regional hospital with about 1,700 beds. Being an acute hospital, QMH provides a full range of comprehensive healthcare services from 24-hour Accident & Emergency services through different specialties and subspecialties to rehabilitation.
Tertiary & Quaternary Referral Services
QMH is also a tertiary and quaternary referral centre for many complex and advanced technology services such as organ transplant, bone marrow transplant, neonatal intensive care, paediatric surgery, assisted reproduction, cardiothoracic surgery, oral maxillofacial surgery and dental surgery, burns and reconstructive surgery and neurosurgery etc. for the entire territory.
QMH is the designated liver transplant centre in Hong Kong since July 2003 providing world-class standard liver transplant service. Since the relocation of cardiothoracic surgical and associated services from Grantham Hospital to QMH in July 2008, QMH has also become the only heart, heart lung transplant and paediatric cardiac surgery centre in Hong Kong. Along with kidney transplant services, QMH is the only hospital providing multi-organ transplant service in Hong Kong.
Additionally, QMH offers cutting-edge services including hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (both allogeneic and autologous), chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy, surgery for Adult Spinal Deformity Correction in Neuromuscular/Syndromic Disorders, etc. Currently, QMH is one of the three public hospitals in Hong Kong providing in-vitro fertilization (IVF) services.
Partnership with The University of Hong Kong
Being the teaching hospital for The University of Hong Kong Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, QMH provides a training and research ground for post-graduates and undergraduates, both local and overseas. It is also a recognized training centre in various disciplines by respective Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom.
