Queen Mary Hospital (QMH), situated at the south western side of the Hong Kong Island,
began operation in 1937 with 546 beds. It is now an acute regional hospital with about
1,700 beds. Being an acute hospital, QMH provides a full range of comprehensive
healthcare services from 24-hour Accident & Emergency services through different
specialties and subspecialties to rehabilitation.
Tertiary & Quaternary Referral Services
QMH is also a tertiary and quaternary referral centre for many complex and advanced
technology services such as organ transplant, bone marrow transplant, neonatal intensive
care, paediatric surgery, assisted reproduction, cardiothoracic surgery, oral
maxillofacial surgery and dental surgery, burns and reconstructive surgery and
neurosurgery etc. for the entire territory.
QMH is the designated liver transplant centre in Hong Kong since July 2003 providing
world-class standard liver transplant service. Since the relocation of cardiothoracic
surgical and associated services from Grantham Hospital to QMH in July 2008, QMH has
also become the only heart, heart lung transplant and paediatric cardiac surgery centre
in Hong Kong. Along with kidney transplant services, QMH is the only hospital providing
multi-organ transplant service in Hong Kong.
Additionally, QMH offers cutting-edge services including hematopoietic stem cell
transplantation (both allogeneic and autologous), chimeric antigen receptor T-cell
(CAR-T) therapy, surgery for Adult Spinal Deformity Correction in
Neuromuscular/Syndromic Disorders, etc. Currently, QMH is one of the three public
hospitals in Hong Kong providing in-vitro fertilization (IVF) services.
Chest Pain and Stroke Centres
Queen Mary Hospital has established Chest Pain and Stroke Centres in line with national
standards. By implementing a Green Channel and enhancing cross-departmental
collaboration, the hospital continues to streamline its processes, resulting in a
significant reduction in the time it takes for patients with acute myocardial infarction
and stroke to receive necessary treatment after arrival.
Partnership with The University of Hong Kong
Being the teaching hospital for The University of Hong Kong Li Ka Shing Faculty of
Medicine, QMH provides a training and research ground for post-graduates and
undergraduates, both local and overseas. It is also a recognized training centre in
various disciplines by respective Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom.
