Queen Mary Hospital is one of the major regional acute public hospitals under the Hospital Authority. It is also the teaching hospital of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong. Apart from general public wards, QMH also provides private ward facilities. The main private wards are situated at the 21st and 20th floors of Block K. There are other private ward facilities attached to the specialty wards.

Private accommodation consists of single-bed ( 1st class ) and 2-bed ( 2nd class ) rooms. All rooms have attached bath and toilet and are equipped with facilities including telephone, television, electric beds, etc.
I. Admission
Elective Admissions
Admission to Private Wards of Queen Mary Hospital is through QMH doctors eligible to private practice. Please consult your attending doctor at the clinic or ward. Advance booking is required. Please admit as scheduled.
Emergency Admissions
These could be arranged through the Accident & Emergency Department depending on availability.
Transfer from General Wards
Patients who stay in the general wards can request for transfer to private ward by application. In view of the high demand, patients may have to wait for the available bed.
Deposits and Payment
Deposits
A deposit is collected at the time of admission. Payment may be made by cash, bank draft, EPS or credit card. (Please refer to the hospital charging policy for details.)

Billing and Refund of Deposit
The Account Office will prepare the interim bills during hospitalization and final bill after discharge for the private patients. Bills have to be settled within 60 days. There will be administrative charge for overdue bills. Any remaining deposit will be refunded by the Finance Department. Please refer to the hospital charging policy for details.

Reminders on Admission
Please bring along:
- Hong Kong Identity Card or Passport
- Hong Kong Birth Certificate for patient under 11 years old
- Personal Toiletries such as tooth brush, face towel, etc.
- A set of your own clothes or you can use our hospital attire
- A pair of comfortable non-slip walking shoes
Please do not bring excessive money or valuables to the hospital. The hospital is not responsible for any loss.
Reminders for Civil Servants, HA staff of dependents
- Please bring along the required documents, e.g. guarantee letter, etc. for the entitled medical benefit
- Extra charges will be levied if you wish to choose your own attending doctor, or move to a higher class of accommodation. Please contact the nurse in-charge or account office for details.
II. Medical Services
Doctors
Doctors providing private patient services consist of professors of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong and HA specialists approved by the Hospital. There are medical officers providing basic medical care. Private patients can select doctors of their own choice during hospitalization. Please contact the ward nurse for details.
Nurses
The “Name Nurse” responsible for conducting assessment and implementing nursing care plan for a designated group of patients is practiced in the private ward. You are free to discuss with your “Name Nurse” for assistance. Their names are displayed in the ward. For the arrangement of self-arranged private helper or nurse, please contact the ward in-charge.
Allied Health Professionals
They include pharmacists, clinical psychologists, dieticians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, prosthetics and orthotists, podiatrists and speech therapists. After receiving referral from doctor, they will conduct individual assessment, design appropriate treatment plan, provide professional advice, teach special techniques or use tools to help patient to achieve the maximal rehabilitation potential.
Community Nursing Service
This service provides domiciliary nursing care for patients through home visits and facilitates rehabilitation in patient’s home environment. Please contact the ward nurse for details.
Pharmaceutical Care Services
Our Pharmacy Department provides 24 hours pharmaceutical care services.
Private patients can pay and collect their medications from the Pharmacy Department upon discharge. Please contact our Clinical Pharmacist if patient requires drug counselling service.

Visiting Hours
- Monday to Sunday: Daily from 12 noon to 1pm and 6 pm to 8 pm.
- Please abide by the instructions of the nursing staff and the hospital infection control measures.
Follow-Up Appointment
- Discharged private patients will be followed up in the private clinics of Queen Mary Hospital Authority
- The ward staff will help to arrange the follow-up time and date

- Sick leave certificate will be issued upon request

III. Facilities and Services
Accompanying Persons
There is bed for accompany person in single room (1st class) only. The bed will be charged. Please request through the nurse in-charge.
Nursing Mothers
This is for parents accompanying sick baby or child under three years old and it will be charged. Please contact the ward nurse in-charge.
Meal / Food Services
The catering service will provide daily breakfast, hot lunch and dinner with beverages and snacks as supplement. These meals are planned by our catering manager with choice of Chinese, European, vegetarian and Muslim food. Special order such as individual preference or religious purpose would be entertained. Please inform ward staff in advance for arrangement.
Canteen
The self-served canteen is located at 1/F, Block K. It operates from 7 am to 9 pm daily and offers takeaway services for visitors.
