The Department of Dietetics is dedicated to:
- Provide optimum medical nutrition therapy to our patients according to standards of COC (Dietitians) of the Hospital Authority
- Work collaboratively with other clinical departments to achieve nutritional care goals of patients
- Coordinate cluster dietitians to explore opportunities to provide diversified service to meet changing needs in the community
- Encourage and support, with the availability of resources, continual professional upgrading and utilization of evidence based practice to improve patient care and advance in dietetic practice
- Participate in planning and training of Dietetic students

Our Mission
- Provide quality dietetic services to effect responsive nutritional care to referred patients
- Carry out nutritional assessment and provide appropriate dietetic intervention to referred patients
- Counsel referred patients and carers, on nutritional principles, therapeutic dietary plans and food selection
- Provide consultation to clinical management team on nutritional care for referred patients
- Liaise with the Catering Department to provide patients with therapeutic diets to optimize their nutritional well being
Our Services
Referrals to Dietitians:
Referrals are raised by doctors. Referrals should be clearly documented with patient diagnosis and the reasons for dietetic referral.
Referrals of adult patients are recommended in the following areas for specialist dietetic input; and other conditions that deemed appropriate by doctors and nurses:
- diabetes
- hyperlipideamia
- hypertension and cardio-protective advice
- hyperuricaemia / gout
- stroke
- COPD
- renal disease
- liver disease (malnutrition)
- obesity
- vegan/vegetarian diet
- cancer cachexia
- dysphagia/ modified consistency diets
- feeding problems in elderly
- under-nutrition and other nutritional deficiency
- medication-nutrient interaction (e.g. warfarin therapy and vitamin K)
- enteral and parenteral nutrition support
For paediatric patients, the following referrals are recommended:
- failure to thrive
- behavioural feeding problems
- iron deficiency and other nutritional deficiency
- faddy eaters
- obesity
- metabolic syndrome
- eating disorders
